The neck and shoulder discomfort of pendulous breasts
may be helped by removing excess breast weight. This requires
removal of skin along with breast tissue, and the scars
are hidden beneath the breast and around the areola. The
surgery is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient
basis. There will be limited chest muscle activity for
one month following surgery. However, the patient usually
returns to work in 10 to 14 days following the procedure.
Discomfort is minimal. It is very uncommon to separate
the nipples from the underlying breast tissue. In almost
all instances the nipples are retained on the breast but
they are elevated to a more natural position.
